Our 2017 Inaugural AbiliTEA for Autism Awareness Month!

Thursday, May 4 2017

We did it! April is over, and with it, our inaugural Autism AbiliTEA campaign to mark Autism Awareness month for 2017.

We are so grateful to all who supported this new initiative. We wanted to focus on skills that children learn in our intensive early intervention (ABA) programs at L4Life that lead to other abilities later in life. Learning how to follow instructions, imitate, communicate, be more independent, interact and play with others and with imagination give kids necessary tools for school, playdates, sports/hobbies, and so much more, throughout their whole lives.

The campaign was launched at our L4Life AbiliTEA morning at Cafe Blac, and was followed by eight Autism AbiliTEA events during April, held by our awesome L4Life Village.

A big thank you to the following people for organising an AbiliTEA to bring awareness to Autism and the work we do:

  • Sue West held an AbiliTEA at her workplace, Foundation X, with her sons attending too (including L4Life Alumni, Charlie).
  • Global X offices in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney hosted a blue-themed morning tea for WAAD, fundraising for L4Life and Autism Queensland.
  • Mary Brest organised the ‘Ladies Who Lunch’ got together for a nice lunch and donated to our campaign.
  • Addie De Nittis combined the first birthday celebration of her business, Spectrum Personal Training with our AbiliTEA campaign, and raised $600!
  • Melanie Larkey, L4Life Board Member, held an AbiliTEA in her home, raising over $1000 for L4Life.
  • Sue, Scott, Charlie, Nate and Buzz (the dog), welcomed their family and friends to their home to celebrate AAM.
  • Annabella Hale held a virtual AbiliTEA throughout the whole of April. Every day, she posted a picture of one of her friends mugs and favourite hot drink, while encouraging people to donate to our campaign.
  • Natasha, mum of a L4Life child, held an AbiliTEA sharing with her colleagues at Telstra the work we do and spreading Autism Awareness.
